INSIDE THE FRAMEWORK

Where wellbeing science becomes everyday learning.

GRACE translates contemporary wellbeing research into a carefully sequenced Foundation to Year 8 curriculum.
Complex concepts become explicit, age-appropriate learning that teachers can bring into real classrooms.

WHAT INFORMS GRACE

A framework shaped by how students think,
feel, relate
and grow.

GRACE brings together complementary fields of research and practice. These foundations influence what students learn, how concepts are sequenced and how wellbeing connects with everyday school life

01

Positive psychology and wellbeing science
Explores the conditions, mindsets and practices that enable individuals and communities to flourish.

02

Neuroscience and emotional regulation
Helps students understand the connection between their brains, bodies, emotions and behaviour.

03

Character strengths and strengths-based language
Builds a shared language through which students can recognise their strengths and draw on them purposefully.

04

Developmentally sequenced learning
Ensures wellbeing knowledge and skills grow in complexity as students progress from Foundation to Year 8.

A FOUNDATION TO YEAR 8 SEQUENCE

Learning that grows through doing.

Across every year level, students explore the five interconnected GRACE strands through explicit teaching, creative investigation and practical application. The curriculum builds progressively, deepening students’ knowledge of wellbeing while giving them meaningful opportunities to practise the strengths, strategies and behaviours that support flourishing.

01

Foundation to Year 2

Building the foundations

Through stories, movement, play, discussion and creative experiences, students begin developing a language for wellbeing. They learn to recognise emotions, identify their strengths, practise gratitude, build positive relationships, respond to challenges and discover simple strategies that help their minds and bodies feel calm, connected and ready to learn.

02

Years 3 to 5

Building understanding

Students investigate how their thoughts, emotions, strengths, choices and relationships work together to influence wellbeing. Through collaborative tasks, practical challenges and real-life scenarios, they develop resilience, deepen emotional awareness, practise calm strategies and explore how they can contribute positively to their relationships and communities.

03

Years 6 to 8

Building agency

Students engage with increasingly complex questions about identity, emotions, habits, relationships, strengths and decision-making. Through authentic challenges, projects and reflection, they evaluate strategies, navigate setbacks, strengthen relationships and take increasing responsibility for the choices and actions that support their own wellbeing and the wellbeing of others.

GRACE does more than teach students about wellbeing.
It gives them repeated opportunities to understand it, practise it and put it into action.

THE FIVE STRANDS

Five dimensions of wellbeing.
Designed to work together.

Each GRACE strand develops a distinct area of wellbeing, while connecting with the learning that takes place across the framework. Together, they help students understand themselves, relate well to others, navigate challenges and make choices that support flourishing.

G

Growth & Gratitude

Students identify and develop their character strengths and explore what it means to become the best version of themselves. They investigate how gratitude can influence their wellbeing and learn to draw purposefully on their strengths during challenge, change and periods of adversity.

R

Relational & Resilient

Students explore compassion, communication and the behaviours that create connection or disconnection within relationships. They develop the skills to build respectful relationships, navigate conflict and boundaries, respond to setbacks and make choices that protect dignity, safety and connection.

A

Attuned & Aware

Students develop emotional literacy by learning to recognise, name and understand their emotions. They investigate body clues, triggers, perspectives and emotional patterns, becoming more attuned to their internal experiences so they can respond thoughtfully and make decisions that support their wellbeing.

C

Calm & Connected

Students learn how emotions and experiences affect their minds and bodies, and practise strategies that support regulation and calm. They explore how connection, self-awareness and purposeful responses can help them navigate stress, regain balance and remain available for learning and relationships.

E

Engaged & Energised

Students explore the conditions that help them experience engagement, motivation and flow. Woven throughout the year, this strand helps them recognise how strengths, challenge, focus and purposeful participation can support their energy, learning and overall wellbeing.

FROM CURRICULUM TO CULTURE

Designed to be embedded,
not simply delivered.

Through a three-year partnership, GRACE supports schools to introduce the curriculum, build staff capability and establish a shared approach to wellbeing across leadership, classrooms and the wider school community.
